21 Luxury Retirement Apartments Approved in the Centre of Wareham

Renaissance Retirement has secured planning consent for an exciting new development of retirement apartments in the centre of Wareham.

The 21 apartments, which will be known as Fleur de Lis Wareham, will be built on the site of the former council car park between Pound Lane and West Street and is located only a short walk from the historic town centre of Wareham. The building has been specially designed to look like a row of terraced houses in keeping with this historic part of the town.

The luxurious properties will provide an exceptional standard of independent living for those considering downsizing from a larger family home.

Renaissance Retirement has a distinguished history; the company was handpicked by HRH Prince of Wales to build a landmark building of retirement apartments in the heart of Poundbury, Dorchester. The company is already selling apartments fast at its site in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and is currently building new developments across the South of England, including Paignton, Christchurch and Romsey.

The spacious one and two bedroom apartments will be impeccably finished with contemporary interiors, whilst owners will also have access to a sumptuous owners' lounge, hobbies room and guest suite, which will be available to visiting friends and relatives.

It is anticipated that the build in Wareham will start in October, with a show home available to view from March 2015.

Nick Watkins, Development Director at Renaissance Retirement, comments:  “We are delighted that the planning committee has awarded us consent to build much needed retirement apartments in Wareham.”

He added: “The South Coast has been popular with retirees for many years, and these luxurious new properties will offer owners the perfect downsizing opportunity. The company’s first development was twenty miles away in Dorchester at the Prince of Wales’ flagship Poundbury site and we are also developing luxury retirement apartments in nearby Christchurch.”

Nick continued: “Research estimates over £400 billion of housing wealth is tied up in properties where owners desperately wish to downsize. Renaissance’s luxurious retirement developments such as Wareham therefore offer an ideal opportunity for those people approaching their later years whose aspire to downsize.”

Robert Taylor, Managing Director, said: “This is great news for Renaissance Retirement and people in Wareham looking to downsize. I’d like to thank our planners Tanner & Tilley and Aspire Architects, as well as the council for approving such an exciting scheme that meets the living needs of local people.”

Located in the centre of town, Fleur de Lis Wareham lies within the Wareham Conservation Area, and a number of buildings opposite and adjacent to the site are listed. Wareham train station, which offers direct services to nearby Poole (10 minutes) and Bournemouth (25 minutes), is a ten minute walk, whilst the breathtaking natural beauty of Purbeck’s heritage coastline is a short drive away.

Noticing a demand for luxury retirement housing, Renaissance Retirement design, build and manage luxury retirement developments, with communal areas meticulously cleaned and maintained to ensure a level of comfort that one would expect in a 4 star hotel.

The company offers a number of added owner incentives and benefits, and Renaissance’s complementary SmoothMove Service – which is offered to all owners at no extra cost – has proven particularly popular. This bespoke service includes a dedicated SmoothMove Consultant, who can offer advice and assistance with downsizing, the planning and setting up of their new home, and administrative tasks.
