Construction work officially starts on Renaissance Retirement apartments in Marlborough

Renaissance Retirement has officially marked the start of construction at the company's luxury retirement development in Marlborough.

Renaissance Retirement is putting into place its plans to re-develop the former Old Yard building supplies site on London Road into to 28 one and two bedroom retirement apartments. The development is likely to be completed in early summer of 2017.

The company employed renowned ex-English Heritage consultant James Webb who advised Renaissance Retirement on the most appropriate building design for this sensitively located site. The company adopted an Arts and Crafts style consisting of sweeping, sprocketed roofs, Voysey dormers and large chimneys. The design, according to Renaissance will be 'stunning'.

Robert Taylor, managing director, Renaissance Retirement, said: "We are finally under way. This is very good news for many local people who will be looking to downsize into a stunning new development in centre of Marlborough. We've had a number of very encouraging enquiries already and it's a good time to register.

"Marlborough is a delightful historic market town and we feel privileged to be part of the very fabric of the town going forward. We think this site is perfect for retired people who live in and around Marlborough. It will also free up many family sized homes in the area which are much needed in the second hand housing stock."

Robert added: "The spacious one and two bedroom apartments will be impeccably finished with contemporary interiors, whilst owners will also have access to a sumptuous lounge and guest suite, which will be available to visiting friends and relatives."

Renaissance's heritage dates back to the first retirement apartments at HRH Prince of Wales' flagship Poundbury development in Dorchester. The apartments, if planning is approved by the council, would provide luxurious living spaces ideally suited for downsizers looking to maintain a quality standard of independent living.

Noticing a demand for luxury retirement housing, Renaissance Retirement design, build and manage retirement developments, with communal areas meticulously cleaned and maintained to ensure a level of comfort that one would expect in a 4 star hotel.
