First owners move into Renaissance Retirement’s Fleur-de-Lis development in Christchurch

When retirement flat hunters Laurie and Polly Alderson set foot into Renaissance Retirement’s new development for senior living in Christchurch they immediately felt at home.

The couple, both in their early 70s, had taken a day trip from their house in Longleat, near Warminster, to check out the Fleur-de-Lis development. Less than an hour after taking the tour they had made a reservation on a two bedroom apartment.

“We made our minds up that this was the place we wanted to live almost immediately,” said Polly, a retired teacher. “We didn’t have to look at another place. We knew we’d be happy here and that’s the feeling we’ve had ever since.

“We fell in love with Christchurch after meeting up with friends who live here. We went on line and found the Renaissance Retirement website.

“Our friends were totally surprised as we always maintained we would always live in Longleat! But we are quite impulsive people and this felt instantly right. We haven’t regretted it for a minute.”

Within a three months Polly and Laurie had sold their house and moved into Renaissance Retirement’s new apartments just off the high street in Christchurch.

Laurie, a business man, author and animal conservationist is looking forward to the coming months getting to know the area. He said: “Being close to our friends was part of the attraction but the draw was also the location. The area has so much for retirees - the New Forest, Highcliffe, Mudeford and everything on the doorstep at Christchurch.”

Polly added: “We have a list of walks we want to try out as well as lots of restaurants and shopping.”

Both Laurie and Polly have been used to scenic views having lived near the Longleat Safari Park estate for many years, so the first floor apartment they’ve bought at Fleur-de-Lis with its stunning views of Druitt Gardens was just what they were looking for.

Laurie added: “We had a pretty good position where we came from. We could see the giraffe enclosure from our bedroom window and if the wind was blowing in the right direction we could hear the lions roaring at supper time!”

Fleur-de-Lis’ perfect location is at the heart of the company’s collection of 26 new retirement apartments located to the rear of Christchurch High Street, overlooking Druitt Gardens. The apartments provide luxurious living spaces ideally suited for downsizers looking to maintain a quality standard of independent living in the region.

Nick Watkins, Development Director at Renaissance Retirement said; “We are delighted that Polly and Laurie have settled in at Fleur-de-Lis so quickly. We have a number of new owners moving in this month and there’s a lovely feel about the place.”

Fleur-de-Lis has been built on the site of the town’s old Cornfactor building which was originally the central hub of the district’s corn market dating back to the 1800s.

The building itself has also been conscientiously designed to preserve the view of the stunning 19th century spire of the Christchurch Christian Centre.  In order to achieve its vision of preserving this heritage view, Renaissance Retirement has removed two units from the center of the building and replaced them with a glass link through which the church spire is visible from Druitt Park.

The development comprises 1 and 2 bedroom luxury retirement apartments, with many featuring private balconies as well as a sumptuous Owners' drawing room and Guest Suite for overnight visitors.

Features of the apartments include fully integrated Neff appliances throughout, granite work tops with Ovolo mouldings, showers with digitallycontrolled thermostats, Premium Villeroy Boch sanitaryware and Porcelanosa wall and floor tiles.

The properties are double glazed throughout and also offer bespoke fitted wardrobes, electric heating, illuminated light switches and fresh air filtration systems, providing luxurious living spaces ideally suited for downsizers looking to maintain a quality standard of independent living.

Nick Watkins added: “If it is luxury and location people are looking for we have the perfect site. Backing on to the thriving Christchurch high street and within easy reach of all the stunning amenities and attractions the New Forest has to offer, our high-end apartments with their high specifications will be hard to beat.

Owners will also benefit from a dedicated Concierge, who will deal with the day to day running of the development whilst also helping to assist with those small jobs such as simply changing a light bulb or helping to carry the shopping to your front door.

Renaissance Retirement was handpicked by HRH Prince of Wales to build the first ever retirement development at Poundbury, Dorchester in the 1990s, and has an enviable reputation for quality build and finishes.
