Howzat! Abingdon Vale cricket club members bowled over by Renaissance sponsorship

Members at Abingdon Vale Cricket Club were bowled over this week after securing a new local sponsor.

Renaissance Retirement, a luxury provider of independent retirement apartments has sponsored the club, initially for £500, for the rest of the summer.

The partnership is likely to continue into 2015 for the next cricket season. The money will go towards the club’s much needed fundraising for new cricket kit and furniture for the clubhouse. Renaissance Retirement is hoping the awareness of sponsoring the successful cricket club will raise the profile of its own development.

Renaissance Retirement has built a luxury independent retirement development called Fleur de Lis – on Wootton Road, just outside Abingdon town centre. Development Director at Renaissance Retirement, Nick Watkins, said: “We are delighted we can help with the fundraising and next season we hope to offer further support to the club and local community.”

Nick added:  “Renaissance has always felt it very important to be part of its local community and put something back and offer support where we can. l hope this will encourage other businesses to come forward and offer their support.”

Abingdon Vale Cricket Club Chairman Robin Newman added: “We have an exciting programme of fundraising for vital pieces of equipment and this is the first vital step in reaching our targets. We are confident that this exciting new partnership will be mutually beneficial.”

Club fundraising chairman, Stuart Cardy, said: “It’s fantastic a local company like Renaissance has come forward and decided to support an Abingdon sports club. We can’t thank them enough.”

Renaissance Retirement’s Fleur de Lis development has sold 40 per cent of its apartments since launching in January this year.
