Morris’ Lock Up And Leave Apartment In Haywards Heath Is Just ‘Perfect’ For Their Lifestyle

Les and Tuija Morris had been looking to buy a flat in Sussex where they could lock up and leave, but it came with certain conditions.

The couple, who spend seven months in Finland, three months in England and the rest travelling the world, wanted a spacious bolt hole close to Gatwick airport.

Les, 73, had spotted Renaissance Retirement's Fleur-de-Lis development of one and two bed apartments being built in a central part of Haywards Heath. As soon as the couple were able to view the 1,750 square foot show apartment, they put down a deposit on it and moved in a few months later.

The apartment boasts a large lounge and dining room area, two bedrooms, en-suite and a snug upstairs, which is now an office and TV room.

"It suits our living down to the ground and we are very happy," said Les. "We have settled in very well but to be honest we aren't hear very much. We are just planning a South America cruise for the new year and will be in Finland in the summer.

"This is very much a lock up and leave flat for us - with benefits. We socialise with the other owners here and some of them had a similar reason to buy to us."

Tuija, 63, added: "It's perfect and offers us care free living. You can lock the front door, let the concierge know you are away for a few months and have no worries. It felt like home very quickly for me."

In the end the decision to move was relatively painless. Living just outside Haywards Heath in a house with a large garden and swimming pool had its advantages, but also their drawback as Tuija explains.

"The garden was beautiful but we were never there to enjoy it in the summer so it became a lot of upkeep and worry for not a lot of benefit."

The couple have tried to make the spacious apartment an eclectic mix of furniture and objects they've bought from all around the world. Les points out pieces from India, Africa and Persian carpets from Iraq.

"We still got a few things to sort out but it feels like home – when we are home!" he added.

Matt Smith, sales director at Renaissance Retirement, said: "We are very glad the Morris' are pleased with their apartment. We are seeing a growing trend of people buying our retirement apartments for that purpose and it suits them well."
