Plans to re-develop Dorking’s former magistrates’ courts into retirement apartments given green light by committee

Plans to bring the former Dorking magistrates' court back into use with much needed sheltered housing for older people has been given the green light by Mole Valley District Council's planning committee last night (4 February 2017).

The former magistrates court will now be re-developed by Renaissance Retirement into retirement apartments.

The decision means Renaissance Retirement will now demolish the existing building and erect a total of 21 one and two bedroom apartments and a public tea room.

The scheme also makes provision for:

- a members' club for the local elderly (for use for social events etc)
- financial assistance to the adjacent Pippbrook Bowls Club to support the development of a new club house
- a financial contribution towards the provision of affordable housing locally.

The full story on this decision will follow shortly.
