Renaissance Retirement Open TCBC Outdoor Bowls Season

Local developer, Renaissance Retirement, was given the honour of officially opening the new outdoor bowls season for the Torbay Country Bowling Club. More than 100 bowlers turned up to launch the new season – many potential new members.

Renaissance Retirement is building a prestigious new development for senior living in Paignton next to Victoria Park on the site of the former town’s library.

It turned out to be a special moment for bowls enthusiast Ryan Judge, Marketing Assistant from Renaissance Retirement, who represented the company for the auspicious day. Ryan bowled the club’s famous silver jack to symbolically start the season.

The prestigious silver jack was gifted to Torbay Country Bowling Club by the Singer family, following the development of Oldway Mansion in the 1930s. Since then it’s been part of the official start of the season celebtations and bowled by a number of ‘VIPS’ including a number of mayors.

Renaissance Retirement has entered into a long term partnership with the club and helped  purchase of a number of important items including a new bowls trolley, scorecards as well as helping with the club’s promotional material.

Renaissance Retirement is hoping the awareness of sponsoring the regionally and nationally renowned bowling club will help raise the profile of its own development. The company’s  38 luxury apartments backing onto Victoria Park in Paignton is due for its grand opening in November this year.

Ryan Judge said: “It was a great honour and a moment I’ll treasure. Thank you to the committee for allowing me to be part of the day.”

Development Director at Renaissance Retirement, Nick Watkins, said: “We are very proud to be supporting Torbay Country Bowling Club. I’m sure the relationship will go from strength to strength. Renaissance has always felt it very important to be part of the local community and offer support where it can.”

Barry Corps, Secretary of the Torbay Country Bowling Club committee said: “We’re delighted that Renaissance has done the honour of opening the 2015 bowls season for our club. They’ve already been a vital link for the club this season providing new equipment and supporting our new members promotional campaign.”

For those interested in becoming members of TCBC or attending an open day, the club are holding ‘play bowls for fun’ open days on Sunday 3rd May and Sunday 10th May between 10am – 1pm, for new members. No appointment is needed, just turn up and you’re guaranteed a warm welcome.
