Renaissance sponsors ladies’ day croquet competition in Abingdon

Continuing its local support of sports clubs in the Abingdon area, Renaissance Retirement has just sponsored the Thames Valley Croquet Club’s annual Ladies’ Day competition.

The 16 strong doubles event took place at Abingdon Vale Cricket Club last week with Helena Fensome and Pam Meade winning the coveted title. Players from all over the Thames Valley region took part in this annual event.

Support of the croquet club follows Renaissance Retirement’s summer sponsorship of Abingdon Cricket Club with the retirement group presenting a cheque for £500 towards much needed equipment.

It’s a lovely gesture and one all the players appreciated – not least the winners who have wonderful medals and trophies thanks to Renaissance.”

In a thrilling and close final match the winning pair took the title with a shot Mrs Rayne described as ‘The shot of the Year’.

Helena Fensome said:  “It was a fantastic day’s croquet and very exciting. Our appreciation to Norma Rayne and the Thames Valley Croquet club for organising the competition.”

Pipped at the post Marion Hebblethwaite and Ann Wotherspoon who finished runners up. Ann added: “Helena’s amazing shot was a fitting end to a great day’s croquet. We could only stand back and congratulate her and partner Pam.”

“It’s important to Renaissance Retirement to support and put back into the community where we can,” said Development Director Nick Watkins. “We hope our support for both clubs goes from strength to strength and that we can help other clubs in Abingdon in the near future.”

The Thames Valley Croquet club are now returning the favour and putting on a free demonstration at Renaissance’s Fleur de Lis development on Wootton Road on the 25 September.

Anyone from the public interested in trying the game for the first time should register their interest with Rachel by calling 01235 535893.

Nick added: “I’m delighted that we can put on a croquet demonstration for our owners and general public at our stunning Fleur de Lis development.”

Renaissance Retirement’s Fleur de Lis development has sold 40 per cent of its apartments since launching in January this year.
