Renaissance Retirement was founded with the aim of designing, building and managing luxury retirement developments that were simply better than the standard developments being produced across the country at the time. That ethos still holds today.

Renaissance Founder Robert Taylor meeting Prince Charles at Fleur-de-Lis Poundbury Renaissance means rebirth, and our aim is to provide innovative, fresh, reinvigorated retirement housing.

Our heritage dates back to the 1990s when we were hand-picked by HRH Prince Charles to design and build the very first retirement apartments at his flagship development at Poundbury, Dorchester.

Renaissance Retirement Founder Robert Taylor Robert Taylor founded Renaissance Retirement in 1997 when he saw a gap in the market for high-end retirement developments. Bob’s epiphany occurred when he started selling the apartments in Poundbury and a potential buyer remarked that she would have bought one if it had been twice as big, and the price wasn’t the main issue.

From that moment Bob looked to offer buyers bigger, more spacious apartments with open plan flexible living, rooftop gardens, mezzanine galleries, secure underground parking, gated communities, and a concierge-driven car on site.

Over the last three years, Bob oversaw the growth of one of Britain’s fastest growing specialist retirement developers and his legacy lives on.

With an unequalled 100 per cent planning success rate over more than two decades, he put it down to developing strong working relationships with all key stakeholders, a sympathetic understanding to a site’s surroundings and never giving up!

Having died unexpectedly in October 2017, Bob will be sadly missed by everyone who came into contact with him.
